Year 3

In Year 3 we build on the skills the children have learnt in Key Stage 1. We teach Numeracy and Literacy every morning, and teach thematically across the foundation subjects ensuring purposeful and engaging learning.

We use the ‘Mantle of the Expert’ approach to learning in which the children become ‘expert’ in a chosen field whether this is Museum curators, Restaurant designers or Antarctic explorers.  We also have 'Outdoor Learning' Lessons where we learn the skills of orienteering, planting and environmentalism.

Every term we produce a curriculum newsletter to share with parents.  Please click below to see an example of this:

The Year 3s are very lucky to have Ballet lessons with the Royal School of Ballet in the Autumn Term, and are taught music by specialist music teachers through Suffolk’s ‘Wider Opportunities Programme.’

In Year 3 the children begin to learn French and in the Summer Term enjoy swimming lessons at the local swimming centre.

We have lessons with the Royal School of  Ballet.

We learn different ballet moves and stretches.

An autoharpist came to school and taught us how to play the autoharps.

We had a lot of fun making fruit smoothies with 'Outspoken'

We had to pedal the bike as fast as we could to power the blender.

The smoothies were delicious!

We enjoyed experimenting with different types of magnets.

We looked at the patterns that iron filings made with magnets and created our own artwork with oil pastels.
