Dance
Children take part in dance sessions exploring:
- How they will move (the different qualities they can add to their movements such as sudden, sharp movements or fluid sustained movements)
- Where they will move (changing directions and levels)
- Who they move with (solo, duet – group)
Where possible dance units are taught to link with mantle topics. These children are creating shapes in a group to represent different mini-beast. Can you spot a caterpillar and some spiders?

Music
Music is a powerful, unique form of communication that can change the way pupils feel, think and act. It enables personal expression, reflection and emotional development. As an integral part of culture, past and present, it helps pupils understand themselves and relate to others, forging important links between the home, school and the wider world. The teaching of music develops pupils’ ability to listen and appreciate a wide variety of music and to make judgments about musical quality. At Sexton’s Manor School we use a variety of music in the classroom to create a calm climate, encourage learning and to complete brain breaks to. We link music as closely as we can to our ‘Mantle of the Expert’. For example composing castle music to play at a banquet.
Music Therapy
We are unique in that we are the only mainstream school to offer Music Therapy to groups of children. A therapist comes in each week to explore music with relevant children.
